Q&A

Is Niagara Falls safe at night?

Yes, the main tourist areas of Niagara Falls are generally safe at night, especially along the illuminated Niagara Parkway and near the falls themselves. The city puts a heavy police and security presence there, and the crowds thin out but don't totally disappear until after midnight. You'll see families and couples walking around well past 10 PM, so if you're sticking to the main strip, the falls viewing areas, and Clifton Hill, you're fine. Just use common sense—don't wander into dark, empty side streets or the park trails away from the lights.

That said, avoid the area around the bus terminal and some of the quieter residential blocks a few streets back from the main drag after dark. It's not a war zone, but you'll get panhandlers and occasional sketchy characters. If you're planning to walk the Niagara Gorge Trail at night—don't. It's closed after dusk, pitch black, and the wet rocks are a legit safety hazard. Stick to the paved promenade by the falls, and you'll have a great time seeing the lights on the water.
