Q&A

Can I cross into Canada with just a driver's license at Niagara Falls?

Short answer: No. A standard driver's license won't cut it for crossing into Canada at Niagara Falls. You need a valid passport, a NEXUS card, or an enhanced driver's license (only issued by certain US states like Michigan, New York, Vermont, etc.). If you show up with just a regular license, you'll be turned around at the Rainbow Bridge or the Whirlpool Bridge. No exceptions.

If you're a US citizen and forgot your passport, you're basically stuck. The only workaround is a passport card (wallet-sized) or a trusted traveler card. Don't even think about using a birth certificate alone unless you're under 16. Canadian border officers are strict—they'll grill you on your purpose, length of stay, and even your job. So save yourself the headache: double-check your documents before you drive up.

One more thing: if you're just visiting the Canadian side for the day, you'll need that same ID to get back into the US. No passport, no re-entry. And don't rely on the "I'm just here for the view" excuse—they've heard it all. Bring the real deal or plan to stay on the US side.
